HYDERABAD, Oct 26: Fundamental Rights Commission of Pakistan activists and members of civil society staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday to protest against continued house arrest of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

The protesters carried Pakistani flags and portraits of Dr Khan.

Speaking on the occasion, the commission chairman, Abdul Jabbar Rehmani, said that while Indian nuclear scientist Dr Abul Kalam was elevated to the august post of the president of that country, Pakistan’s nuclear hero, notwithstanding his services to the country, had been kept under house arrest. He said that 71-year-old Dr Khan was suffering from cancer.

He reminded the rulers that Dr Khan had translated Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s dream to make Pakistan a nuclear power into a reality but said unfortunately the followers of Mr Bhutto had continued to keep him under house arrest.

Dr Khan was not only the hero of Pakistan but also of entire Muslim world, Rehmani said and demanded his release.
