NEW DELHI, Oct 24: Under fire from millions of cricket fans across the world, Adam Gilchrist apologised to Sachin Tendulkar over his ‘liar, dishonest and bad sport’ remarks in his book.

Gilchrist had called Tendulkar dishonest in his soon-to-be published book.

Gilchrist called up Tendulkar today, and has reportedly apologised saying, ‘Sorry’. Gilchrist also stared, that his comments were taken out of context.

Gilchrist also assured the master blaster that he will soon issue a clarification on this issue.

Earlier, Gilchrist had called Tendulkar, names like a “liar”, “dishonest”, “a sore loser” and a “bad sport” in his soon-to-be published autobiography “True Colors of My Life”, over the Harbhajan-Symonds ‘Monkeygate’ controversy. The former wicket-keeper said that Tendulkar had initially told the hearing that he could not hear what was said, he was “certain he was telling the truth” because he was “a fair way away”. But during the appeal which followed, Tendulkar said that Harbhajan used a Hindi term that sounded like “monkey” to Australian ears.

“In the Australian mentality, we play it hard and are then quick to shake hands and leave it all on the field. Some of our opponents don’t do it that way. Sachin Tendulkar, for instance, can be hard to find for a changing room handshake after we have beaten India. Harbhajan can also be hard to find,” Gilchrist added.

On the other hand, Sachin Tendulkar has further clarified the move on Gilchrist’s part, with him confirming that Gilchrist had indeed called him up and asked for an apology over the entire issue.

Meanwhile, former chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar on Friday described Gilchrist’s remarks as a “marketing strategy”.

“You have to write something sensational to sell a book,” Vengsarkar said. “I think it’s a marketing strategy that Adam Gilchrist has adopted. Very unfortunate, but a fact,” the former Indian captain said—Agencies
