Consumers continue bill battles

Published October 24, 2008

LAHORE, Oct 23: Protests against overbilling and over 12-hour power outages entered the fourth day on Thursday as power consumers took to streets and protested outside some Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) offices, police said. Protesters burnt tyres, tore down their bills and chanted slogans against the government and Water and Power Development Authority.

Dozens of consumers, including women and elders, blocked the road outside the Lesco office in Gulbahar Colony, Naseerabad, in protest against, what they called, grossly inflated bills.

They demanded the withdrawal of “extra surcharges” in the bills. Dozens of protesters also held a demonstration on Guru Mangat Road in Gulberg.

A large number of consumers also gathered at a Lesco office in Badar Block, Iqbal Town, and lodged their protest against “excessive” billings. Protests were also reported in Chappar Stop Multan Road, Mughalpura, Sukh Nehar Stop and Sanda.
