ISLAMABAD, Oct 20: The Pakistan Muslim League-Q has welcomed the statement of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani that neither was Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi named in the FIR nor was involved in the murder of Benazir Bhutto, but called for action against the Sindh government officials who had issued “threatening statements”.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday, PML-Q’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, Faisal Saleh Hayat, leader of the opposition in the Senate Kamil Ali Agha and information secretary Senator Tariq Azeem said that the party would chalk out a line of action if anything happened contrary to Mr Gilani’s assurance.

They said that the Sindh government officials had tried to disrupt an atmosphere of reconciliation and consensus informing the in-camera session of parliament.

Mr Hayat said the PML-Q had accepted assurance of the PM because he was a unanimously elected leader of the house and he should be trusted. The party, however, would definitely see to it that there was no going back on the assurance, he added.

“We demand that action should be initiated against the Sindh government officials who issued statements during the past three days threatening to arrest the former chief minister of Punjab.”

Senator Khalid Ranjha told a questioner that a second FIR in the same case could not be registered under the law.
