ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Shabbir Iqbal (135) was well ahead in the professional category of the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship following the second round at the Islamabad Golf Club on Saturday.

Shabbir, Pakistan’s leading golfer, carded four birdies in the second round to achieve another under 68. He was well eight strokes clear of Waheed Baloch, who was one under par (143) after 36 holes.

Tariq, who is one stroke behind, achieved the score of par after two days’ proceedings. Ghani Khan finished as the runner up with 16 over 158 after 36 holes. Ilyas won the senior pro competition as he carded seven over 151 over for two days.

The amateur category was jointly led by Saleem Raza (145) and Azhar Shah Bokhari (145) while Inayatullah at 146 was in third place and Pervez Akhtar at 148 was fourth.

In the category of senior amateurs, Lt. Col. Mohd Safi is leading with the score of 84, 84, closely followed by M.S. Bajwa with 86, 79.

In the ladies competition, Claudia Watchel is leading in the net category with the score 70 (2 under), followed by Shahida Ismail at 72 and Ami Qin at third.

The championship features some 300 golfers from around the country.
