FAISALABAD, Oct 10: Three people were killed and seven injured in Dijkot on Friday when some men opened fire inside a bus that was taking their rival to the court.

Mohammad Ali of Chak 264-RB had enmity with Akram of the same village. Akram’s men stopped a passenger bus by which Ali was going to a court for the hearing of a case.

The attackers barged in the bus and opened indiscriminate fire, killing Ali, commuter Shahnaz and bus driver Ahsan at the scene.

They also injured Shahnaz’s husband Mohammad Rafiq, her daughters Ayesha and Saima, Allah Rakha, Rasheed, Naveed and Asim and fled.

The injured, all passengers, were taken to a hospital where three of them were said to be in a critical condition.

After the incident, heirs to the dead and the injured blocked Samundri Road and protested against the police failure in arresting the criminals.

The protesters dispersed after police informed them that a case had been registered and that culprits would be arrested soon.

The enmity between Akram and Ali’s families is quite old and has claimed almost 50 lives so far.
