KARACHI, Oct 9: Hussain Haroon, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Nations, has proposed that a force should be set up under the command of the army chief to fight terrorists in the NWFP and Fata.

Mr Haroon said at a news conference at his residence on return from New York that Nato troops operating in Afghanistan should also be linked to such a force to ensure coordination on both sides of the Durand Line.

Emphasising that collective efforts were needed to deal with terrorism, Pakistan’s UN envoy said his proposal would lead to a better coordination between the country’s armed forces and Nato.

Asked about the prospects of a regional conference on the “war against terror”, Mr Haroon said the matter had been discussed in a number of meetings at the UN, adding that it was not in his domain.

In reply to a question about a UN-led inquest into the murder of Benazir Bhutto, he dispelled reports that the world body was dragging its feet. He said that very soon a commission would be set up and hopefully it would begin its work later this year.
