PESHAWAR, Oct 4: The city police claimed on Saturday to have arrested three suspected outlaws, one of them in an injured condition, in an encounter on the Ring Road in the limits of the Peshtakhara police station.

An official said that following some information that an explosive-laden car (670-Karak) was going to enter the city through the Ring Road, the police cordoned off the entire area.

The official said that when the security personnel asked a vehicle to stop, its driver sped it away. The police party then chased the vehicle and when it reached the area near the Peshtakhara police station, the inmates of the car opened fire on the police, which also retaliated. In the ensuring gunbattle, one of the accused was injured while two managed to flee with their weapons. And three were arrested.

Those arrested were identified as Shah Nazar (wounded), Mohammad Aamir and Mian Hassan. All of them are residents of the Karak city.

A police official said it was not yet clear as to why the inmates of the vehicle refused to stop when they were asked to do so. The official said there were no explosives found in the vehicle.
