LAHORE, Sept 26: The Sub-committee of the Standing Committee on Sports (Culture, Tourism, Sports and Youth Affairs) in its 10-page findings has shown satisfaction over the football promotional work carried out here by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) during the past five years.

The five-member sub-committee headed by Senator M. Enver Baig, heard from the officials of several sports federations in three meetings — July 28, Sept 1 and Sept 4, 2008 — at the Parliament House in Islamabad and have forwarded their recommendations to the main committee.

The Standing Committee led by Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal will now forward the report to the prime minister and federal cabinet for implementation.

The PFF was represented by its secretary-general Lt Col Ahmed Khan Yar Lodhi during the Sept 1 meet and he provided a handsome record of the work done and milestones achieved earned under Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat’s leadership from 2003 to 2008.

The game during the past five years has reached many far-flung areas of the country thanks to PFF’s talent hunt schemes. Pakistan was also able to create a new record in SAG football with four gold, while snatching sensational wins over Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Guam and Afghanistan along with forcing Asian champions Iraq to a 0-0 draw on neutral territory.

The Sub-committee showed it’s satisfaction on PFF’s progress for the uplift of the game.—Agencies
