Barclays Bank receives threat

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: Police placed a foreign bank under surveillance after two men left a message with the private guards to expect an attack by militants.

“Be careful of the Taliban and the adjacent Madressah, especially today,” the unknown persons told the security guards of the Britain-based Barclays Bank on Tuesday.

Sources said the two suspects appeared at the Barclays Bank in F-7 Markaz at around 11:30am and asked the security guards about its senior official, Mr Shaukat.

Later, they enquired about the security arrangements in place at the bank. Surprisingly, the guards briefed them about the security setup, after which they left the scene giving the warning.

Shortly after the appearance of the two suspects, the bank’s management informed the local police who arrived at the spot and interrogated the guards.

The sources said the guards did not seek the identity of the two persons and even failed to hold them till the arrival of the police.

The law enforcers obtained the CCTV camera footage which showed the two clean-shaven men wearing dress pants.

Police personnel were posted at the bank and a patrol unit was also deployed to keep an eye on suspicious people.

Efforts are still on to trace and arrest the unidentified persons.
