SHIKARPUR, Sept 24: The residents of Chabootra Bazaar, Mehar Shah Qubo and Kakiran-jo-Thallo mohallas, took out a rally here on Wednesday to protest against power outage for the last 10 days.

The protesters burnt tyres and blocked the city roads at Lakhi Gate tower chowk.

The angry protesters also beat the line superintendent of Hesco Mohammad Murad Shaikh, when he came at mohallas to collect illegal gratification of Rs10,000 for the third time for installation of new transformer.

On the assurance of Hesco through police for restoration of electricity, the protesters reopened the city roads.

KILLED: A village watchman was killed in the firing by thieves in Lodra Goth in the Sultankot area late Tuesday night.

Thieves entered Lodra village to commit theft from village’s fish pond. The villagers informed the police and offered resistance till police reached the spot.

With the help of villagers, police tried to arrest the outlaws, who opened fire on police and the villagers, as a result of which the village watchman Zameer Soomro died. No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.—Correspondent
