RCCI seeks cut in diesel price

Published September 20, 2008

RAWALPINDI, Sept 19: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Thursday said the meager reduction in prices of petroleum would not lessen the miseries of common people and called for bringing down the prices of diesel, kerosene and gas.

President RCCI Abdul Rauf Chaudhry in a statement issued here said that the prices of oil in international market had plummeted to $91 and argued that the prices of oil should be fixed according to the international market.

He said that agriculture, transportation and other industrial units in the country were dependent largely on diesel and regretted that the government had reduced the prices of petroleum only and that too by just Rs5.

The RCCI president feared a new wave of price hike and inflation would engulf the country in the wake of increase in diesel prices. —Our Reporter
