LAHORE, Sept 15: A girl allegedly gunned down her elder brother, who had admonished her for having an affair with a youth, at their Montgomery Park residence early on Monday.
The victim, identified as Abbas Waheed (22), son of Sheikh Waheed, dealt in milk supply.
Police took accused Sidra and her lover, Usman, into custody from Naseerabad police limits after tracing their location with the help of girl’s cell phone and recovered a pistol, Rs500,000 in cash and jewellery Sidra had taken away from her house soon after the incident.
Qila Gujjar Singh SHO Muhammad Ali told Dawn that initially it seemed to be a blind murder, but police finally traced the girl using cell phone by tracking system.
Sidra told the police she had fallen in love with Usman, a resident of Children’s Hospital locality. Despite her repeated requests and warnings, Abbas kept interfering in her affair.
She, however, denied the involvement of her lover in the murder and told the police that she had killed her brother alone for torturing Usman in her presence.
Police investigation revealed that a day before the incident, Abbas got infuriated when he came to know about the latest meeting of his sister with Usman. An exchange of hot words took place between Abbas and Usman which turned into a scuffle. Abbas finally brought his sister back home and snatched her cell phone.
Sidra exchanged hot words with her brother late on Sunday and threatened him with dire consequences. However, their mother Almas Bibi resolved the matter.
After Sehr, both the brother and sister went to their beds.
After sometime, Almas Bibi heard a gunshot in the room of her son. She rushed to the spot and found Abbas with a bullet wound in his forehead. On raising an alarm, neighbours came there and rushed the victim to Mayo Hospital but doctors pronounced him dead.
Almas Bibi told the police that she initially thought her son had committed suicide, but later she found her daughter missing from the house. She also found cupboards of some rooms unlocked and valuables missing.
However, the SHO said Almas initially tried to conceal the facts, saying she found Abbas dead in his room at around 9:30am as some unidentified people shot at her son and later took away cash and jewellery.
