Spotakova sets javelin record

STUTTGART, Sept 13: Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic has set a world record in the women’s javelin with a throw of 72.28 meters at the World Athletics Final.

The Olympic champion set the record in her first throw Saturday. The old record was held by Osleidys Menendez of Cuba, who threw 71.70 meters at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki, Finland.—Reuters
