Villagers protest against SHO

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 11: Dozens of villagers of Sindhillianwali area staged a demonstration on Thursday outside the district press club against the alleged high-handedness of the Arouti SHO and registration of what they said fake cases against them.

Addressing the protesters, Muhammad Nawaz and others said one year ago they had purchased farmland from Iftikhar Husain and his relatives against the payment of Rs4.2 million.

They alleged that the former owners of the land had bribed SHO Gul Nawaz Mahoota to get back possession of the land. They said the SHO had registered fake cases against them to intimidate them.

They demanded the district police officer suspend the SHO and hold an inquiry against him.

BUTCHERS HELD: Chuttiana veterinary officer Dr Mian Gulzar Ahmad on Thursday raided Kikha and recovered meat of two dead cows from shops of two butchers Amin and Ghulam Rasool and handed over them to the police.

Cases have been registered against them under section 8 of Slaughter Act.

ESTATE: The provincial government is considering establishment of an industrial estate at Toba.

This was said by district coordination officer Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.

He said a survey was being conducted to find a suitable place for the proposed estate and in case proper land was not found, it would be purchased from private land owners.

He said setting up of industrial estates in backward areas of the province was the policy of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to create more and more business opportunities and jobs for locals.

STUDENTS: Kamalia government girls college students continued their protest on Thursday against the Punjab University for not registering them for the upcoming BA examination.

They staged a demonstration and raised slogans demanding the university to register them otherwise their future plans would be affected.
