HYDERABAD, Sept 4: University of Sindh Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has said that a true artist highlights problems of society in his work and shows a mirror to society.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of an art exhibition of students of the university’s Institute of Art and Design at Benazir Bhutto Art Gallery on Thursday.

The vice-chancellor said that the institute had a long way to go with focus on market and added that artistic creations of design must attract manufacturers. He said he understood the difficulties of its students as Lahore and Karachi were far bigger markets and had more industry than Hyderabad. Appreciating the creative work of students, he expressed the hope that it would attract market.

The director of the institute, Dr M.A. Bhatti, highlighted academic activities of the institute.

He proposed to avail services of art scholars from Karachi and Lahore institutes in different subjects to teach students keeping in view the market requirements.

The students of design by using waste material like pieces of cloth, wood and old furniture had created beautiful showpieces which were displayed at the exhibition.
