MUZAFFARGARH, Sept 3: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani will inaugurate the newly-built bridge on the River Chenab here on Thursday (today).

The four-lane project initiated in 2005 was scheduled to be completed in August 2007, but it missed its deadline owing to floods and other reasons. Later, Dec 31, 2007, and Aug 12, 2008, were set its deadlines which also lapsed.

The old bridge connecting Muzaffargarh and Multan was built around 100 years ago.

MNA Jamshed Dasti said he had invited the prime minister to open the bridge.

DCO Javed Malik said the district government had made all arrangements to welcome the prime minister. However, he said, it was not certain if he was coming or not owing to security constraints, especially after an attack on his motorcade in Islamabad on Wednesday.
