LAHORE, Aug 20: Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Sayed Zahid Hussain on Wednesday took suo moto notice of the alleged illegal occupation of the land in Journalists’ Housing Colony, Harbanspura, by some officials.
The CJ has summoned the case record and referred the matter to Justice Khalil Ahmad for further proceedings.
The CJ took the notice on reports emerging in several newspapers pertaining to registration of an FIR by Lahore Press Club authorities against a magistrate of Gujranwala, Abdul Ghafoor, and others on the charges of illegally occupying some plots of the colony.
FOOD: Justice Hamid Ali Shah has directed the Punjab food department to distribute wheat to all flourmills according to their allocated quota without any discrimination or favouritism and disposed of a petition by Raja Flourmill of Jhelum.
The petitioner flourmill said the department did not provide it wheat according to its allocated quota.
It also complained that the department was showing favoritism as a bulk of quantity was being provided to flourmills owned by politicians and other influential people. The petitioner’s counsel alleged that the department was providing wheat to some flourmills beyond their quota, depriving it of its legal and fundamental rights.
NO-TRUST: Justice Hamid Ali Shah suspended no-confidence proceedings against naib nazim of UC-265, Partab Nagar, Faisalabad, and issued notice to the election commission and other respondents for Sept 9.
Petitioner Abdul Majeed, the naib nazim, said two general councilors, at the behest of nazim, moved a no-confidence motion against him.
He said the nazim without fulfilling the requirements of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001, forwarded the motion to election commission for appointment of returning officer. Even no show-cause notice was served on him, he added.
The petitioner asked the court to declare the proceedings of no-confidence motion against him as void, illegal and unwarranted.
