LAHORE, Aug 16: Floodwater released by India into Sutlej River entered Pakistan on Saturday causing damage to farmland.

The Flood Forecasting Division expects the river to flow in low to medium flood by Sunday morning.

An official said that the flooding at Ganda Singhwala would persist for nearly two days.

India had released water on Aug 14 at Ropar, the official said, adding that low-lying areas along the river would be inundated up to Suleimanki.

Our Correspondent in Kasur adds: Floodwater inundated farmlands on the Sutlej River’s edge but villages were safe.

Although the district government arranged a few boats, people in five villages, including Mastaykey and Kalanjar, were said to be encountering problems transporting milk.

DDO-R Rana Zahid Sharif, head of the district flood contingency plan, said that the district government had set up a number of camps, especially in the Talwar Post area.
