SIALKOT, Aug 16: The Customs officials continued interrogating the detained clearing agents and the dry port staff concerned on Saturday for allegedly booking and clearing a container carrying 250kgs of fine quality opium packed in sports consignment.

Reports said custom officials had on Friday seized the contraband worth millions of rupees during a special checking. The container, booked by local company Victory Point Sports, was to be exported to Canada through the customs clearing agents of Sialkot.

ARRESTED: The local police claimed to have arrested five dacoits after a brief encounter.

DPO Capt Muhammad Ameen (retired) said this while talking to reporters here on Saturday. City DSP Waseem Akhtar and senior district peace committee member Zafar Malik were also present.

The DPO said the police on a tip-off raided the hideout of the accused near Muradpur and arrested them following a brief encounter. He said the arrested dacoits were identified as Shehbaz, Shahid Ali, Liaquat, Zeeshan Khan and Sagheer.

He said the police also recovered the looted valuables and illicit weapons worth millions of rupees from them.

The DPO said the arrested bandits were wanted in more than 60 cases of dacoity, robbery, murder, kidnap for ransom and other heinous crimes by Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Gujranwala and Hafizabad police.

Police have sent the accused to jail after registering a case against them.
