KARACHI, Aug 14: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) thrashed Pakistan Television (PTV) 4-0 while Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) beat Navy 1-0 in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played in the city on Thursday evening.

The match at the Korangi Baloch Stadium saw PIA scoring two goals in both the 45-minute halves with PTV failing to come up with any sort of a reply. The first three goals (21st, 36th and 75th) belonged to striker Shakir Lashari, who completed his hat-trick in the second half, before winger Zeeshan Ali scored the fourth in the last minute of the game.

The other match between KESC and Navy at the Peoples Sports Complex saw the encounter’s lone goal coming much later when KESC’s striker Abdul Ghafoor converted partner Mohammad Hanif’s pass in the 72nd minute.

The situation on the points table on Independence Day has Karachi Port Trust leading with 17 points, followed by KESC (13), PIA (12), Habib Bank Limited (11) and Pakistan Steel (10).

Meanwhile, Army who have played fewer matches and lost only one, have nine points along with Punjab Medical College and Wapda, followed by Khan Research Laboratories (eight), Afghan Football Club (seven), National Bank of Pakistan (six) and Navy and Pak Elektron Limited with five each and PTV with none.

Friday’s fixtures:

Habib Bank Limited v Khan Research Laboratories at Peoples Sports Complex at 5.30pm; Pakistan Steel v Wapda at Pakistan Steel Town Ground at 5.30pm.
