HYDERABAD: Lawyers back impeachment

HYDERABAD, Aug 13: The president of Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA), Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar, has demanded accountability of President Pervez Musharraf while congratulating PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for taking initiative of impeachment of the president.

He was addressing lawyers at a protest rally outside the civil court here on Wednesday.

He said the eight-year military rule of President Musharraf had damaged the credibility of Pakistan and took it to an economic impasse. He said the “list of crimes committed by president is very long”.

He said President Musharraf had handed over several innocent people to US and forced politicians into exile.

Mr Gujjar said the president had created hurdles in the return of Ms Benazir Bhutto, who had refused to strike a deal with him and then she was murdered.

He said that impeachment of President was justified and after his removal Pakistan would witness a real democracy.

SPYO: The Sindh People’s Youth Organisation said in a statement on Wednesday that the only option left for president was resignation or face the wrath of people. The president was trying to create rift in the PPP but he wouldn’t succeed, its said.
