GUJRANWALA, May 6: Pakistan Railways issued a notification on Monday enhancing economy class fare and seasonal ticket between Gujranwala and Lahore as well as some other sectors.

The railway had been charging Rs25 per passenger for economy class of rail car and Tipu Sultan train from Gujranwala to Lahore. It has now been increased to Rs40 per passenger. The economy class fare from Gujranwala to Lala Musa, too, has been increased from Rs25 to Rs40.

The seasonal ticket from Gujranwala to Lahore has been increased from Rs750 to Rs1,200 per month. Sources said fares on other express train would be enhanced shortly.

The fare, however, has not been raised in case of the airconditioned coaches.

Some of the passengers told Dawn if the increase was not reversed they would prefer travelling by buses.

ABOLISHED: The government has abolished the post of Gujranwala excise and taxation director. Instead, it has inducted a district officer (Excise) to head the taxation branch of the district council.
