ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: The Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH) on Tuesday opened the doors to one of its newly set up sections – the Animated Exhibits Gallery (AEG) that houses a number of electro-mechanical exhibits.

Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Chairman N.M. Butt inaugurated the gallery.

The AEG constructed at a cost of Rs40 million exhibits a huge collection, starting from migratory birds to animals as big as dinosaurs.

The displays include models of the earth, solar system, volcanoes besides virtual world of animals and cave life, animals in natural settings, insect life cycle and plant pollination etc.

“This museum of natural history is going to be a major attraction for visitors. The moving electro-mechanical exhibits have been introduced in Pakistan at the AEG for the first,” said PMNH Director General Dr M Rashid Awan at the inauguration.

The museum had been playing vital role for researchers and students as well as general public, he said, adding that the project was funded the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Impressed with the entire set-up, Dr Butt said: “We will continue efforts to promote science and technology and informal education activities in the country through establishment of science museums, science corners and science centres.”

The PMNH authorities also announced that the museum’s display galleries would remain open to the public on August 14 with no entry fee.
