PARACHINAR, Aug 8: At least 10 people were killed on Friday as heavy clashes between two groups continued for the second day in the Bilyamen area of Lower Kurram. Seventeen people were injured.

Local people said security forces attacked positions of the warring groups with artillery to force them to stop fighting. The death toll in two days of clashes in the village near the Afghan border has increased to 14.

Sajjad Hussain, younger brother of MNA Sajid Hussain Turi, is among those killed.

The fighting has added to tension in other areas of Kurram Agency.

Meanwhile, a child has died of pneumonia in a hospital in Parachinar because essential medicines are not available in the region.

Doctors said 14 children had died in the area over the past six days because of non-availability of medicines.

The main road to the area has remained blocked for 10 months because of tension and clashes.

Officials said a consignment of medicines was airlifted from Peshawar to Parachinar in two military helicopters on Friday.
