LARKANA, Aug 7: The student wings of political parties should vacate rooms of the Government Degree College Rato Dero within a week, challenged the Larkana region chapter of the Association of Principals of Government Colleges at a meeting, on Thursday. They warned that failure to do so would result in protest.

President of the association, Saleem Korai chaired the meeting, while the college’s Principal, Prof Mumtaz Solangi told participants that student organisations had occupied rooms of teaching and non-teaching staff and stuffed the furniture in a room. They constantly keep the staff under pressure to accept examinations forms without fee, while issuing threats, he said.

Criminal elements had infested the academic atmosphere, he said, and added that he had sought the help of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Sindh National Front and PPP-SB leaders to stop their supporters from disturbing the atmosphere but in vain.

These elements misbehaved with teaching and non-teaching staff which was reported to police but without any action, he said.

The threat by these ‘extortionists’ forced the contractor to leave construction of the college library half way, he said.

Participants asked the leaders of political parties to stop their student wings from damaging activities in educational institutions.

They said that almost in all colleges similar situation prevailed as outsiders had blended with students and spoiling academic atmosphere. Mr Korai said that they would support the Principal, Rato Dero College.

Prof Solangi told journalists that the principals’ association would think about boycotting the ensuing university examinations starting from 22nd of this month.
