ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Pakistan and China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here on Thursday to establish permanent campus of the Pakistan-China University of Engineering, Science and Technology in the federal capital.

The signing agreement was held at the Higher Education Commission. Construction of the campus will begin next year and within five to six years, the university will have a developed physical and technological infrastructure.

Chinese ambassador Luo Zhaohui and Chairman HEC were present on the occasion. Dr Sohail Naqvi, executive director HEC, signed on behalf of the Commission, while Prof Lin Jintong, rector of the university, represented the consortium of seven Chinese universities led by the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT).

According to the MoU, students at the university will be enrolled in top Chinese universities. In addition, the BUPT will initially award degrees to the students who complete all the requirements.

The Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University and North China Electric Power University will launch MS programme in electronic engineering, civil engineering, and energy technology in September 2009.—APP
