LAHORE, Oct 24: Punjab Governor Muhammad Safdar on Wednesday said the rules for the autonomous health institutions had been finalized, distinctively demarcating the powers of the chief executives of the institutions and principals of the attached medical colleges.

He was presiding over a meeting on the rules of the health institutions at the Governor’s House. The meeting was attended by the chief executives of the institutions and principals of the attached hospitals.

The governor said the implementation of the rules would help effectively run the government hospitals and provide more facilities to the poor and deserving patients.

He said the financial, administrative and academic autonomy given to these health institutions around three years ago had helped in improving the overall functioning of the hospitals and their attached medical colleges.

But, the governor said, the delay in the formulation of their rules had created certain problems and bottlenecks. The rules had now been given a final shape but before their implementation opinion of the chief executives and the principals was being sought.
