LAHORE, July 29: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that he wants the mandate given by the people in the Feb 18 election to be honoured and he will sound out the Pakistan People’s Party leadership about the promises made to his party.

Talking to journalists at Lahore airport after his return from London on Tuesday, Mr Sharif said he was constantly in touch with all allies and had also written to (PPP co-chairperson) Asif Ali Zardari to ask about the reinstatement of judges and impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf.

He said as he had not received a reply from Mr Zardari, he would call on the PPP leader after discussing the situation with his party’s central executive committee.

“We’ll ask him why there is a delay in taking the promised steps and what are the reasons behind this delay.”

The problems of price hike and loadshedding would also figure in the talks, he said.

Answering a question about the Fata operation, he said all important decisions should be taken in parliament, unlike in the past when one man was running all the affairs.

“Parliament represents the 160 million people of the country. It should be made the forum to devise policies instead of giving the right to one person like the past,” he said.

When his comments were sought on the Aug 14 deadline set by the legal community for reinstatement of judges, Mr Sharif said his party was with the lawyers.

Extraordinary security arrangements had been made on the occasion and some PML-N workers clashed with police in a bid to meet their leader.
