ATTOCK, July 26: An anti-corruption team on Saturday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Daska Police of Sialkot district on the charge of taking bribe.

According to sources in anti-corruption department, Sajjad Sindu, a resident of Daska teshil had filed a complaint with anti-corruption department Attock that ASI Rana Liaqut Ali Khan was demanding Rs100,000 for making a deal with the outlaws for the return of his stolen machine.

He said he arrived at Attock along with the ASI to recover his stolen crush machine worth Rs2.5 million as the ASI had told him that the machine was lying at a show room near Attock. But when they arrived at Attock it was not found there.

Meanwhile, the ASI informed him that his machine had been shifted to Charsada (NWFP) and the thieves were demanding Rs450,000 for its return. Therefore he should pay him. Interestingly, the ASI assured him that he would pay Rs350,000 to the outlaws and would adjust his bribe amount of Rs100,000 as he did not want to put extra financial burden on him.

The anticorruption team led by circle officer anticorruption Attock Raja Mohammad Fazal conducted surprise raid under the supervision of Judicial Magistrate Attock Shafqat Shebaz Raja at a show room near Qutba Chowk and recovered signed currency notes of Rs100,000 from the possession of ASI concerned, which he had received as bribe from Sindu just before the raid.

The anticorruption department has registered a corruption case against the ASI and is investigating.
