KARACHI, May 5: Unidentified assailants shot a young man to death in Gulbahar on Sunday morning.

The police said that Waqar Husain Shah, aged 22, was sitting at his vegetable shop at Liaquat Chowk in Gulbahar Bazaar when unidentified assailants, riding on a motorcycle, opened fire on him and escaped.

The police said that the man was hit by two bullets and died on the spot.

The police sent the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. The dead man was resident of Sarhad Ittehad Colony.

The police said that Shah was a friend of a slain activist of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, Athar, who had been killed last year in an ambush at an election office during the local bodies polls in the police limits of Rizvia.

According to initial investigations, Shah himself was not an active member of the banned sectarian group, but he used to hang around with members of the group, the police said.

A senior police officer said that the dead man’s funeral was not attended by SSP activists.

Despite being wounded, the doctor recorded his statement to the police. He was stated to be in stable condition when this report was filed.

Dr Rizvi resided in Sabir Colony, Malir Extension, and he was a well-known doctor in the area, the police said.
