LAHORE, July 16: Railways Board Chairman Muhammad Kashif Murtaza has said the railways is making efforts to ensure timely operation of trains and security of passengers during travel on a priority basis.

Talking to newsmen after the passing-out ceremony of 250 railways police recruits, including 50 lady constables, at the PR training centre at Walton here on Wednesday, he said the railways was passing through difficult times but expected to overcome problems by improving its performance.

He said railways was running in loss at present which would be reduced gradually by increasing income by improving the standard of service.

A number of joint ventures were also proposed to be launched in collaboration with the private sector for improving the financial condition of the railways.

Speaking at the ceremony earlier, he called upon the police officials to improve the image of railways by treating the passengers politely and ensuring their security during travel.
