Child dies in roof collapse

LAHORE, July 13: A minor boy lost his life after a dilapidated roof of a three-storey house collapsed owing to downpour in Kocha Madni, Lohari Gate, on Sunday.

Rescuers said the incident occurred near Pir Bhoola shrine where the roof of one-and-a-half marla house of Tassawwar Shah caved in, leaving some family members trapped in the debris.

Officials of Rescue 1122 and Edhi rushed to the spot and removed the trapped victims, but Ali Hyder, 7, the son of Tassawwar, was recovered dead.

Quoting Shah, one of the rescuers said he (Mr Shah) was a painter and did not have enough money to repair the roof.

In another incident, a small wall of a house owned by Umer collapsed on Ghazi Road due to rain.

However, no one was reportedly injured in the incident.suffocated: A 70-year-old man was killed in his house in Johar Town on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Nazeer Ahmad, a resident of E-Block.

Nazeer’s wife Sitara Bibi told the Johar Town police that some unidentified people approached her husband who was asleep at the roof of his house. They put a pillow on his face and suffocated him to death.
