LARKANA, July 11: A large number of people of Balhreji and other villages staged a protest on the airport road against the loadshedding and low electricity voltage on Thursday. They also staged a sit-in at Channa Brudge and blocked the traffic on the airport road.

Mohammed Ramzan Sariyo, Altaf Hussain Soomro, the councillors of Bagi, Moenjodaro union council, and others led the protest demonstration.

They called for installing a new big transformer at Dokri grid station for proper and steady power supply to the area.

The old transformer of this grid station was damaged a month ago due to power overload. The Hesco had made alternative arrangements and installed two small transformers to restore power supply to Moenjodaro airport, Moenjodaro site, Cadet College Larkana, Dokri and others adjacent villages.

But power supply to 45 villages connected with the Nasirabad grid station remained affected. And people of these areas had also complained of low voltage supply.

Muhib Pirzado, a former union council nazim of Bagi, had met with the federal minister for water and power to inform him about the crisis. The minister had ordered the Hesco for early installation of the big transformer to address the problem, the protesters claimed.

The protesters later ended their protest on the assurance of Hesco officials of steady power supply.
