Aptma to stay away from strike

Published July 11, 2008

LAHORE, July 10: The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has distanced itself from the strike called for Friday by the rest of the industry in protest against the recent increase in gas prices and suspension of the cash subsidy to the apparel sector.

The decision to stay away from the strike was taken by the Aptma leaders after the government assured its leadership to reduce gas tariff for captive power plants in a couple of days.

Aptma has also been assured that the government would look into the electric power rates.

All Pakistan Textile Association Chairman Adil Mahmood, on the other hand, said his association would join the strike.
