NAWABSHAH, July 7: Growers of Dhoronaro minor here on Monday took out a rally, observed token hunger strike and staged a demonstration outside local press club to protest against the acute shortage of water.

The rally started from Trey water on Sanghar road and, after marching on main thoroughfares, ended at press club. The protesters carried banners and placards seeking water to their minor.

They told journalists that thousands of acres of agricultural land at Dhoronaro was rendered barren due to shortage of irrigation water. They alleged that the shortage was artificial and created by the irrigation officials.

They also accused irrigation officials of demanding a fixed amount to supply water to their lands. They alleged that when they approached executive engineer Nusrat irrigation division, he threatened to implicate them in water theft cases.

They demanded of MNA Faryal Talpur and Sindh irrigation minister to take notice of injustice with the growers and initiate action against officials and provide water to their minor.

BOOKED: Qazi Ahmed police have registered an FIR here on Monday against seven persons for looting a house on the complaint of Ahmed Khan Lund, a resident of village Nawab Wali Mohammad.
