HYDERABAD, July 1: The Chinese unit-2 of the Jamshoro Thermal Power House is out of order since May 10 following a fault while other units are also developing faults one after another, causing shortfall in electricity generation.

It was only on Tuesday that the Chinese unit-4 was reenergised after it developed fault on Saturday due to a leakage of hydrogen gas from it.

The fault was rectified on Monday night but it again closed down in the morning.

Sources said that it again closed down in morning due to the fault in its turbine and after the repair it had been reenergised in evening and it will gradually gain the speed required for power generation.

It is currently producing 70 megawatts of electricity.

The Japanese unit-1 and Chinese unit-3 have also started working and generating 110 megawatts and 150 megawatts of electricity, respectively. Only the Chinese unit-2 remained closed for major repair.

It was lying closed since May 10 following a major fault in its generator. The authorities have called the Chinese firm for assistance and their local representatives, according to an official source, have inspected the unit.

But repair work has not started yet.

An official source said that the three Chinese units had been given proper attention yet they developed faults which were ultimately rectified by the staff concerned.

Nevertheless, he said, the units need overhauling given the fact that sufficient time has been passed since commissioning of the power house.
