KARACHI, June 30: Two persons were killed and four others were injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up on Sharea Faisal on Monday morning.

Police said a passenger coach coming from downtown jumped over the traffic island near Karsaz, resulting in collision of some vehicles coming from the airport side.

Two persons died on the spot while four others were wounded as a hi-ace van, a cab, a motorcycle and the coach bumped into each other.

The injured were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The crash resulted in long traffic queues in the morning hours.

Police detained the coach’s driver and impounded the vehicle. Apparently, police said, the vehicle’s tie rod developed some fault that caused the accident.

Robbed

Armed bandits deprived a Dawn photographer of his cash and valuables on University Road late Sunday night.

Mujeebur Rehman was intercepted by six armed suspect on three motorcycles as he came out from an eatery opposite the Expo Centre. They took away Rs34,000 and two cellular phones from his possession.

An FIR (326/2008) was lodged at the Aziz Bhatti police station.
