QUETTA, June 29: Police have seized 650 kilogrammes of high explosives from a vehicle in the Killi Darwishabad area after a clash with suspected militants.

According to sources, police had ordered two vehicles to stop for a check on Saturday night but the drivers tried to escape. They were chased by police but people in the two vehicles opened fire. The police personnel returned fire and the encounter lasted more than half an hour.

The armed men escaped leaving one of their vehicles behind. The vehicle was later searched and explosives were found packed in its cavities.

Capital City Police Officer of Quetta Mohammad Akbar told Dawn that the vehicles were coming from the border town of Chaman. He said: “The suspects were planning to carry out subversive act somewhere in Quetta.”

Law-enforcement agencies raided various places for the assailants.
