Polling for by-elections today

ISLAMABAD, June 25: Polling for by-elections to five National Assembly and 25 provincial assembly constituencies will be held on Thursday (today).Voting will begin at 8am and continue till 5pm without break.

Local administrations have announced holiday in constituencies where by-elections are being held.

The five National Assembly constituencies are: NA-11, Mardan-III; NA-52, Rawalpindi-III, NA-55, Rawalpindi-VI, NA-131, Sheikhupura-I, and NA-147, Okara-V.

The Supreme Court has suspended polling for by-elections to NA-123, Lahore-VI, from where PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had filed his nomination papers.

Polling will be held in 14 constituencies of the Punjab assembly, seven of the NWFP, three of Balochistan and one of the Sindh assembly.

In Punjab the constituencies are: PP-59, Faisalabad-IX; PP-70, Faisalabad-XX, PP-99, Gujranwala-IX; PP-107, Hafizabad-III; PP-118, Mandi Bahauddin-III; PP-124, Sialkot-IV; PP-141, Lahore-V; PP-154 Lahore-XVIII, PP-171, Nankana Sahib-II; PP-219, Khanewal-VIII; PP-229 Pakpattan-III; PP-243, D.G. Khan-IV; PP-258, Muzaffargarh-VIII, and PP-277, Bahawalnagar-I.

For NWFP assembly, elections are being held in the PF-20, Charsadda-IV; PF-45, Abbottabad-II; PF-59, Battagram-II; PF-75, Lakki Marwat-II; PF-81, Swat-II; PF-91, Upper Dir-I, and PF-92, Upper Dir-II.

Three Balochistan assembly constituencies where polling is being held are: PB-9, Pishin-II; PB-32, Jhal Magsi, and PB-44, Lasbela-I.

In Sindh, polling will be held for PS-30, Khairpur-II constituency.

The Election Commission has already notified Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Faryal Talpur and some others as successful candidates from various national and provincial assembly constituencies.

A meeting of the Election Commission on Wednesday disposed of various elections-related petitions.
