NAWABSHAH, June 23: Angry villagers beat a 22-year-old man to death and seriously injured his friend after their car hit a rickshaw on the Airport Road near Juma Bhangwar village here on Monday.

The villagers gathered at the site of the accident and beat up the occupants of the car so severely that Noor Elahi died on the spot and Ghulam Mustafa Brohi suffered serious wounds.

The injured was taken to Nawabshah Medical College hospital. No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, residents of Gopchani village held a demonstration outside the press club on Monday against police, accusing them of releasing two thieves after accepting bribes.

Carrying placards and shouting slogans against police, the protesters blocked the press club road by staging a sit-in.

The protesters, led by Akbar Jalbani, Gulsher Jalbani and Sarwar Jalbani, said that they had caught two thieves red-handed in Aziz Gopchani’s house and handed them over to police.

But the police instead of registering an FIR against the accused, released them after taking bribes and instead booked complainants in a fake kidnapping case.

They demanded suspension of the SHO of Gopchani police station.
