SYDNEY, June 20: Australian captain Ricky Ponting will deliver the oration at a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late cricketing great Don Bradman, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Friday.

Ponting, who is now leading Australia on their West Indies tour, will deliver the sixth Sir Donald Bradman Oration as part of a dinner here on August 27 to honour ‘The Don’.

Ponting will be the first current international cricketer to deliver the oration, an annual event that honours the career, contribution and memory of the world’s most revered cricketer.

“I’m proud to be able to play a formal role in the centenary celebrations for Sir Donald Bradman,” Ponting said.—AFP
