Girl assaulted, hospitalised

LAHORE, June 20: A 12-year-old girl, who was reportedly raped in Faisalabad, was admitted to the Jinnah Hospital here on Friday.

Police said ‘M’ worked as a maid in a house in G-block of Johar Town. Some two months ago, a barber, Shahzad, kidnapped her and took her to Faisalabad where he raped her and later sold her to a woman.

On Thursday, she managed to escape from the woman’s house and raised an alarm. The area people contacted the Johar Town police who brought her back to Lahore and got her admitted to hospital.

The Gowalmandi police claimed that Nadeem, of Badami Bagh, was a habitual offender.

According to them, the City Division police had been put on high alert after four girls were raped during two months or so in the Walled City.

On Friday morning, a patrolling team signalled a man who was carrying a girl to stop, but he tried to flee and later opened fire. The police retaliated and the man, later identified as Nadeem, was injured in the ensuing shootout. He was taken to Mayo Hospital.

Javed Hafiz was on his way home after drawing Rs400,000 in cash from a bank when two armed men snatched cash from him. They opened fire on him on resistance. He was taken to hospital.
