NAWABSHAH, June 16: The District and Sessions Judge Nawabshah on Monday issued notices to executive engineer, sub-divisional officer, line superintendent, lineman and revenue officer of Hesco Nawabshah regarding issuance of inflated bills.

Dr Ghulam Hyder Memon and Ali Nawaz Memon had filed applications in the court of Sessions Judge stating they were consumer of Hesco and pay their bills, regularly.

They further stated that they were being issued inflated bills and being charged units without proper meter reading.

They said on June 13 reading on their meters were 64,324 and 22,325, while they received bills of May mentioning reading as 64,807 and 22,720 respectively, recorded on May 29.

They said on one hand they were being forced to pay huge amount and on the other, extra surcharge was added. They said on approaching concerned officials, they were insulted and threatened of discontinuation of electricity if bills were not paid.

The applicants said in case of disconnection their families including women, children and old people will suffer in hot and humid weather. They prayed the court to direct opponents to correct bills and facilitate them to make payment.

District and Sessions Judge and Director human rights, Syed Irshad Ali Shah directed the SHO of A-section police station to serve notices to executive engineer, SDO, line superintendent, lineman and revenue officer to appear in court on June 18.

Similarly, hundreds of other consumers complained of excessive billing by Hesco. The electricity bill of Nawabshah Press Club for June 2008 received on Monday mentioned present reading 25,004 recorded on June 3, whereas reading on June 16 was 24,890.

Consumers have demanded of the federal minister for water and power, MNA Faryal Talpur and Hesco chief to take action against the officials.
