LAHORE, June 13: PML-N patron Nawaz Sharif says the presidency continues to conspire against the democratic government which is evident from the closure of Geo’s transmissions.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he said the role being played by the media for the restoration of the deposed judges was being lauded by all segments of society. He observed that the pressure being exerted by the presidency to disconnect two talk shows of the private TV channel highlighting people’s aspirations was a clear proof that President Musharraf had got unnerved and was taking the ‘unwise’ step that could put negative impact on friendly ties of Islamabad with other countries.

Criticising the move of the presidency, he demanded that all components in the federal government, including the PPP, should condemn the act.

Meanwhile, the PML-N chief has urged residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to serve the guests of long march by bringing eatables, chilled water and tea from their homes for them to the Parade Avenue.

US envoy: US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W Patterson has praised Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's “forward-looking 100-day agenda” at the National Management College.

"The government under Prime Minister Gilani has set forth a good strategy for continued growth and advancement," Ms Patterson said while addressing officers on Friday.

"It is an ambitious programme that offers dramatic improvement in the lives and prospects of people throughout the country, at all levels of society."

Speaking on ‘US foreign policy formulation and implementation’, the American ambassador said accomplishing Gilani's agenda would require “political will and cooperation”.

"The United States hopes to see all levels of the government of Pakistan working quickly and in a spirit of compromise to overcome the economic and law and order challenges that the average Pakistani faces," she said.

“We are committed to helping Pakistan solve these problems.

"With dedication and good faith on both sides, we will continue to pursue those interests to the benefit of Americans and Pakistanis alike," Ms Patterson said.

While in Lahore, the top American diplomat visited the Lahore Museum and also called on Governor Salman Taseer and Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
