HYDERABAD, May 2: The chairman of Wapda, Lt Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan, has said that the government is absolutely impartial in all matters and wishes to serve all Pakistanis without any discrimination.

He said it during a meeting with the chief of the Awami Tehrik and president of Sindh Water Committee, Rasool Bux Palijo at the latter’s residence in Qasimabad the other day.

The spokesman of the Tahrik, Noor Nabi Rahujo, in a statement issued here on Thursday, said that the general explained at length the policies of Wapda and the efforts of the federal government for resolving water problem.

The chairman, who was accompanied by Brig Naeem, Hesco chief and the chief engineer of Wapda, (water), south, Raghib Ali Shah, proposed that a workshop be held by the end of the current month, which should be aimed at resolving the water crisis.

Rasool Bux Palijo spoke on various aspects of 150 years old inter provincial history of water dispute in Pakistan and underlined the irreparable losses faced by Sindh during this long period especially the destruction and devastation caused by the current water famine in Sindh which he termed artificial.

Mr Palijo tentatively agreed to the proposal for holding a workshop with a view to finding an amicable solution.

He suggested that a just solution to the problems faced by the people be sought and that serious efforts be made for that purpose.

The general secretary of the AT, Abrar Kazi, was also present on the occasion.—Bureau
