LAHORE, June 6: Shahbaz Sharif, who is due to take oath as the chief minister of Punjab on Sunday, says he will “ensure rule of law in the province and will neither do himself nor allow anyone to do any unlawful act”.

Talking to the media on his arrival at the Punjab Assembly to take oath, he iterated: “Good and lawful governance remain his priority number one.”

He said the PML-N did not recognise the PCO judges and was struggling to get the pre-Nov 3 judiciary restored. The party would take part in the long march and had directed the workers accordingly, he said.

About the appointment of Salmaan Taseer as governor of Punjab, he said the party was not taken into confidence before the key appointment and it had brought all its objections on record. “There is nothing more to say on the issue”.

When asked to respond to the governor’s maiden speech in which he claimed to make Punjab and Lahore a bastion of the PPP, Shahbaz Sharif said it would be much better if the entire Pakistan became fortress for all Pakistanis.
