CAS squash enters Final round

ISLAMABAD, June 5: Amjad Khan, Shams-ul-Islam, Arshad Iqbal and Majid Khan made it to the final round after defeating their rivals in the 19th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) International Squash Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex on Thursday.

In the day’s opening fixture, Amjad Khan ousted Shahid Zaman 3-0 after a tough fight.

Shahid worked extremely hard to overcome the deficit and tied the match 9-9. However, Amjad did not allow Shahid to take lead at any point of the match winning the first game 16-14.

Shahid could not recover from the jolt as Amjad clinched the other two games 11-02, 11-9.

In the second clash of the qualifying round Bilal Zaman proved very gritty in the first game against Shams-ul-Islam winning 6-11.

However, Shams made a wonderful come back and won the other three games 15-13, 11-3, 12-10 (3-1).

The main round of the championship will start on Friday. Aamir Atlas Khan, top seed of the tournament, will face Safeerullah Khan, a wild card entry, in the first fixture of main round of the championship.

Eight matches will be played on the opening day of the main round of CAS International Squash Championship.

Shams-ul-Islam bt Bilal Zaman 6-11, 15-13, 11-3, 12-10 (3-1)

Arshad Iqbal bt Owais Khan 11-4, 6-11, 11-9,11-4 (3-1)

Majid Khan bt Aqib Hanif 11-5, 11-6, 4-11, 11-9 (3-1).
