Islamabad on red alert

ISLAMABAD, June 5: The capital city has been put on red-alert on the directives of the police chief, who asked his subordinates to come in the field and conduct search operations in various areas.

When contacted, police officials told Dawn that a message by the inspector general of police was aired through wireless operator of the control room, conveying the directives late evening.

In the directives, senior superintendents, superintendents assistant superintendents and deputy superintendents of police and the station house officers were asked to come out on roads along with the police personnel and conduct search at different spots.

The message also asked for setting up pickets in and around the city, especially at sensitive areas.

The IGP himself came on the road for 10 minutes to check, monitor and supervise the search activity of the police.

The police have set up pickets at all the entry and exit points of the city and started conducting search in different areas.

Diplomats have been asked to restrict their movements and inform the police about their travel plans, the officials said. Foreign missions also have been told to beef up their security.
