DADU, June 1: People complained about water theft, street crimes and highway robberies at an open katchehry held by Pakistan People’s Party MNA Dr Talat Iqbal Hussain Mehesar and MPA Imran Leghari in Khairpur Nathan Shah on Saturday.Farmers accused irrigation officials of selling water to influential landlords and a leader of abadgar association, Abdul Ghani Qureshi, complained that the department had desilted 300 watercourses and its officials were selling water to influential landowners while the poor were not able to get even drinking water.

Nawab Khan said that incidents of street crime, road robbery and kidnapping were on the increase but police were doing nothing to control them.

Dadu DPO Manzoor Hussain Khatian said that he was trying to curb crimes and asked people to cooperate with police in their efforts against criminals.

MNA Mehesar said that the government would provide jobs to the jobless people and launch development projects in the far flung areas. He directed irrigation officials to ensure water was supplied to villagers and warned they would be suspended and he would send complaints against them to irrigation department if they failed to do so.

MPA Leghari assured that law and order would be improved and all the kidnapped people would be recovered. He advised police that senior police officers should start patrolling along the Indus Highway to help curb road robberies.
